Zanskar Winter Trek This expedition-style hike follows the frozen Zanskar River all the way to Zanskar, passing through a stunning gorge. Zanskar, located to the south west of Leh and bounded by the Himalayan and Zanskar mountains, is the most remote of all the trans-Himalayan valleys. The valley is over 5,000 square kilometres in size and climbs to 13,154 feet in elevation. The only way to travel to Zanskar Valley by car is to take the road from Kargil to Padum. The location is inaccessible for around seven months of the year due to severe snowfall. All of the crossings are closed in the winter, and the only way out of Zanskar is through the frozen Zanskar River, which has become a popular winter tourist attraction.
