One of the closest high-altitude attractions is Zoji La. The Zoji La pass is a significant route between Ladakh and Kashmir Valley, located 15 kilometres from Sonamarg. At 3,528 metres, it is the second-highest pass on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, after Fotu La. (11,575 feet). Zoji La Pass was attacked during the Indo-Pakistani War in 1947-1948, but was reclaimed by the Indian army under Operation Bison.
